Apple 4th Generation iPod

Apple has released a 4th generation ipod, which is slimmer and has improved battery life. Apple is offering two different models of the ipod which can hold more songs for around the same price as current models in the market. The new 20gb ipod will sell for $299, while the 40gb models will sell fro $399.

The new ipods are available at apple retail stores, online web site, and through resellers. The new ipods (4th generation) offers a 12 hour battery life, as appose to the current ipods that only have an 8 hour battery life. The improved battery life is due to better power management features. The click wheel is similar to the I pod mini apple released in January. Apple has also added some software upgrades to the new 4th generation ipods. For example you can now listen to audiobooks faster or slower, what ever suits your needs.

Also new to the ipod is the ability to create and edit more than one playlist from the ipod. “Apple said that the company has no current plans for a 60GB iPod. Toshiba, which supplies the drives used in the iPod, said in June that a 60GB drive was in the works. A Toshiba executive was quoted in overseas press reports as saying Apple was a customer, though Toshiba executives in the United States would not comment.” (CNet)

Apple has dominated in the market for mp3 players. The ipod has accounted for 54% of all mps player sales in the United States. Competitors such as Sony and Dell have introduced similar mp3 devices but, have a long way to go before they start chipping away at the 54% market share.
